Brazilian band Scalene brought their warm spirits into our EC house on a very cold day in Toronto. Having seen their dynamic and high energy rock set at Indie Week, we were really intrigued to have them swing by and perform a couple of their songs acoustically. They approached us with a ton of humility and curiosity about the local creative scene.
Having been together as a band for more than a decade, this group of guys has a diverse skillset and a very grounded perspective on the industry. They have a keen focus on pushing creative boundaries and not doing things just for the sake of marketability. One of the many admirable qualities they possess is their value for the resurgence of pride within their Brazilian music communities, saying “people need this now more than ever, the cathartic experience that music gives.”
Having won a Latin Grammy for best Portuguese Rock Album in 2016, Scalene opened for Def Leppard in 2017 and shared with us that they have plenty of excitement planned for 2018. We believe them.
